Hanxu Hall of the Summer Palace

Formerly known as the three-story pavilion built during the Qianlong period, the Wangchan Pavilion, it was rebuilt into a one-story Hanxu Hall during the Jiaqing period, which is an excellent place for emperors and queens to enjoy the moon in summer and autumn. Qianlong once reviewed the naval exercises of the Xiangshan Jianrui Battalion here, which was burned down by the British and French forces in 1860 and rebuilt during the Guangxu period. Empress Dowager Cixi once reviewed the drills of the Naval Academy here.
